Walker-Turner 25" drill press- Model 900 made approx 1940

by Gary T.
(East Bay, CA)

My dad got this in Denver just after WWII started. He was told it was the last one which could go to the civilian market. From then on they would go to defense related companies. Besides my our family's projects, many cub scouts learned shop safety as well as drilling on it.

My mom brought it to me in No. Calif. in 1975. It needs replacement bearings and I'm told Walker Turner had them made special for their tools, but that there may be a company which installs them located in New England. Does anyone have any information?

Thanks in advance.

Correct Drill Press Wiring
by: Oran Wilson

You have a serious electrical problem with this motor wiring. The wiring should be as follows.
Assuming that this is using 120 Volts AC.
the Power Cord BLACK WIRE goes to the power
switch. The other switch lead goes to one of the motor wires. The other motor lead goes to the
Power Cord WHITE WIRE. The Power Cord GREEN WIRE
goes to the Metal Case of the Motor. If the
motor switch is not phiscallt attached to the motor but is grounded to the Drill Press then
the Power Cord GREEN WIRE can be attached to
the screw terminal that holds the switch to
the Drill Press. THIS SHOULD BE CORRECTED
IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Walter-Turner 900
by: s. Fletcher

I have a Walker-Turner drill press. It has 1-900 on the side and on the face plate it has Serial 944. It runs well, however, I keep getting a shock when I run it. I notice that the motor has a green wire hanging from it which I cannot figure out. It has apparently been cut off. It is apparently a ground but I cannot figure out where it goes. Can anyone help.

Walker Turner Bearings
by: Mike Handy

There is a guy back east:

Walker Turner Serviced Machinery, LLC
PO Box 666
Coventry, CT. 06238

He's a bit $$$ but he has all the stuff. I used KSK 1623Z sealed bearing from Bearing Engineering in San Francisco (415-431-1500)for the spindle bearings. There are also in San Leandro (510-746-3000) The original SKS caged bearing were not availuable. Maybe the guy in at Walker Turner Serviced has them. I have been told the bearings pressed in to the pulleys are very difficult to remove and you can damage the pulley pulling these out. I have not gotten that far yet. Have you taken out the Feed Pinion? Mine seems like it's jammed into the housing, I'd hate to force it and break something. Give me a e-mail at michaelhandy@sanbrunocable.com
