Looking for an idea of what this was used for. It belonged to my great-grandfather.

Suger nipper

This is a hand forged sugar nipper when sugar was purchased in cone form wrapped in brown paper. Cones can still be purchased from re-inactor supply stores.

Frequently one finds these with two handles to grip like a pair of pliers...mostly in steel, but sometimes in silver.
