Craftsman Drill Press

by Eric Klee

I have an old variable speed floor model with the heavy gold colored cover. It has three pulleys on top and the speed is changed by varying the distance between the last two pulleys. Something has happened so that when I lower the quill ever so slightly the shaft disengages from the pulley gear housing and therefore stops turning. I don't see how to get the cover off, but I removed the belt and felt where the spindles geared end fits up into the housing and moves down as the wheel is lowered. Something is either missing or broken. Is there a long key that goes in there to allow it to stay engaged?
