Threaded Dowel -- Vise screw? What is it?

Threaded Dowel -- Vise screw? What is it?

I am stumped. This is 27 1/2 inches long, made of wood. It is threaded. Best guess of the measurement of the threading is 2 1/4 inch diameter. The top portion (which looks like a barrel) has a diameter of 4 inches. Two holes are on either side of the this upper portion, through which I presume a handle would pass. I do not have whatever piece would go through the holes. It is branded OHIO TOOL CO. on the top. Thanks for your assistance! (PS- I can forward more photos of this if you need) Fran

Wood Screw
by: Ken

Hi, I believe this is a screw for a bench vise. It could be a screw for any large old tool but the tail and face vise comes to mind. The hole in the head would be for a handle to rotate it similar to those found on modern woodworking vises.
